sicilian folk by Dolce & Gabbana - part I

Thinking of fashion as an art form, the best ideas and designs are nearly always connected to a story. I think the Dolce & Gabbana summer collection is a very emotional collection full of light-hearted memories of "sole, mare, amore" which are imprinted in the fabrics of the dresses.
So let's escape for a moment the winter outside and join the journey to Sicily in the 50s and 60s with all its kitsch and nostalgia.

The materials, prints and accessories are a feast for the senses. For example the striped dresses and playsuits reminded of the beach umbrella and gave the collection a fresh and casual look. Combined with the scarves in the hair the typical 60s atmosphere is complete.

But the collection is also an homage to Sicilian handcraft shown in the various details of the collection. The oversized chandelier earrings for example have the shape of traditional street puppets or are inspired by the head-shaped vases and dishes native to the Caltagirone region. Also the show-closing corset and "crinoline" made from bent cane shows the classic craft of Sicilian basket making.

One can discuss a lot about this collection, but my advice is to take it as light-hearted and humorous as it comes and enjoy the sweet memories of Dolce & Gabbana.
