For spring/summer Dries van Noten returned not to his roots but to the roots in general with a collection dedicated to forest and nature inspired by John Everett Millais' Ophelia, the Pre-Raphaelite image that triggered a million hippie fantasies. In the painting, Ophelia floats dreamily in a magical woodland setting which van Noten has recreated with a mossy carpet realized by Argentinian artist Alexandra Kehayoglou and a golden lighting.
The show started with just the birds chirping and tweeting creating a powerful silence to present the van Noten Ophelia in a mix of casual, ethereal and cool. The collection itself included some easy and elegant van Noten signature styles like slouchy trousers, oversized blazers, shrunken bomber jackets, T-shirt tunics and asymmetric hemmed dresses in a rich patchwork of patterns and textures which gave the collection a fairy-tale atmosphere. The show closed with a sit-in of the forest creatures on the moss carpet reminding of the summer of love.
